Video games are a type of entertainment electronics that have a common component of a visual, or video, interface for input and feedback. In general, this can include any kind of software game that utilizes some type of display, such as a TV screen, a computer monitor or small display built right into the gaming unit.

When video gaming was first introduced into the marketplace, the term “video” referred rather specifically to what was known as a raster display device. However, today the term “video game” simply means any kind of video display that is able to interact with the software games and correctly display the functions of the game.
There are several types of electric gaming systems that are widely available on the market and which are designed only for the purpose of running video games. The most common and popular video game platforms are the PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox brands.
These dedicated game platforms usually are attached to a standard television set which becomes the screen for the games. There are also handheld versions of some of these gaming platforms and these units will have a small video screen built into the unit. Some of these games will also run on a Pocket PC device which is another good option for portability and convenience.

In addition to the dedicated gaming platforms, there are also many video games that will run on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers. This means that anyone with a computer can also enjoy playing games with a variety of computer software gaming options and without having to buy a separate, dedicated video game platform.
Usually, there is a much wider variety of video software games that run on computers than the number of games available for the dedicated boxes. But at the same time, video gaming enthusiasts often prefer the video game platforms because the games are more interesting, intense and challenging.
Another aspect to consider is that the dedicated platform for a video game is designed more for multiple players and so that is often an advantage that is preferred. Also, games that run on computers are often considered more limiting because the size of the computer monitor is generally much smaller than the size of the television screen to which the dedicated game boxes are connected.

In many households, the computer is often used for homework, household management and business purposes, so therefore the computer is not as available for entertainment purposes. This is another reason that the dedicated platforms for games are popular because it avoids the fight over the use of the computer.
For years now, video games video downloads have been very popular and this continues to increase. It is possible to find a video game for all age levels and skill levels and they range from educational to engaging adventure games. There is no doubt that people will be enjoying video gaming systems for many years into the future.
Where In The World Is Wii Fit?
Does anyone remember that show, what was it called, “Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego”? I think there was something called that. Anyway, that title should be replaced with “Where In The World Is The Wii Fit”?
As far as I’m concerned, the fact that Nintendo’s Wii Fit is so incredibly hard to find, is an indication or shows that a shift or expansion of sorts is happening within this industry. The thing about Wii Fit is that you literally have to use your entire body to play the game.
Now, the crazy thing about this is that a couple of years ago, when Nintendo revealed their Wii console and gave a general indication of how games were going to be controlled, which was motion-based, it seemed that almost everyone was shocked with disbelief. Not in a positive light, but a negative light.
I can remember this almost as if it were yesterday. People were saying that Nintendo was dead. That they were going to go bankrupt. You name it, and someone probably said it. Fast forward a couple years later, and not only is Nintendo’s Wii a success, but so is their Wii Fit.
The Wii Fit though requires your entire body, whereas a regular Wii game would require some hand and arm movements. What does this tell me? That there is definitely a shift happening within the video game industry. More and more people want to move their bodies in some way or another while playing games.
I’m not saying their is anything wrong with playing games that doesn’t require any type of body movement. There isn’t. But look at the bigger picture. The fact that more and more people are using their bodies while playing these videogames sheds negative layers off of the gaming industries image. For some reason or another, this industry has been looked at in a negative light for far too long.
But that’s starting to change now, and Wii Fit is helping with that effort. People of all ages are using it. I’ve seen the news where gym trainers are actually incorporating Wii Fit’s into their training programs. This is a huge positive for the industry. So, where in the world is Wii Fit?
Yes, for people like me, who want the game real bad, it’s probably not a really good thing that it’s really hard to find one. But for the industry as a whole, the fact that Wii Fit is so hard to find is another sign that video games are on it’s way to being looked at as another legitimate form of entertainment.

Nintendo DS Lite Review
This is a Nintendo DS review. Before I begin, it’s important to note that there are actually two different Nintendo DS’s. One being the original, and then of course the revision being the Nintendo DS Lite. Within this review, I will specifically be talking about the Lite version of the DS.
First off, the DS Lite is definitely smaller and lighter than it’s original version. It’s also very sleek and can easily fit in your pocket. So as soon as you open up the console, you’ll notice right away that it has two screens (hence the name DS “Dual Screen”). The screens are positioned in a vertical manner, with one screen located on the top of the console, and the other screen located at the bottom of the console.
You have two speakers located on each side of the top screen. The sound that comes out of these speakers is actually quite decent, but doesn’t compare to the quality of sound when using your headphones. Located in the middle of the system is the microphone. Then at the bottom, we have your standard D-Pad, X, Y, B, A, Start and Select buttons.
Located on the very top of the system, you have a slot for your DS games, port for your charger (this is to re-charge the built-in battery), and your R and L buttons. Located at the very bottom is a slot for your Game Boy Advance games, a volume slider, and a headphone jack. On the side, you have your power button, and a slot for the stylus.
I have had my DS for a while now, and in terms of raw functionality, this system performs like a champ. I’ve dropped my DS several times (by accident of course), and it shows absolutely no signs of “giving up.” So, do I recommend this product? Considering that I have spent more time playing my DS then I have any other video game system, my answer is a resounding yes!

Pay To Play Online – Is It Worth It?
Not too long ago, I started to play World of Warcraft. From my experience with the game, I thought it was really good. It has lots of depth, good graphics, and an amazing online community. One thing though, in order to enjoy the game, it has to be played over a long period of time. But in order to play for long periods of time, we have to pay. Roughly $23 dollars a month.
Now, it’s not the only game that requires a monthly subscription fee. Phantasy Star Universe and Final Fantasy 11 also require one, roughly $20 a month. There are other games too, but I’ll keep it at that for now.
This monthly subscription to me can be summed up in one word, ridiculous. It’s expensive and unnecessary. I can understand the costs of maintaining servers, but this is something that should have been dealt with in the beginning. When the game first came out, it was about $40 and came with a one month free trial.
From there, add $20 a month over the course of two years, plus the expansion pack that was released about two years ago and sold for around $40. Together, we’re talking about $600 or so dollars. $600 dollars, spread over the course of about two years, is about one third the cost of a typical person’s gaming budget. Now, I understand that Blizzard has to pay to keep the servers up, staff to maintain the servers and various other expenses.
That being said, why is this coming out of the pockets of gamers? This is something that should have been taken care of when the game was created. If they offered something like $99.99 a year, then that would probably make things a little more reasonable. Instead, we are paying $80 dollars for six months. That’s a lot considering it’s just for the online costs.
To be honest, I believe the monster that Blizzard created, WoW, symbolizes everything that is wrong with the videogame industry. All the negative stereotypes about gamers are represented by WoW players. I have known people to quit their jobs, leave social events, and even get seriously sick due to this game.
It’s games like this that keep the industry from growing. Why you may ask? Because people become so involved with games like these that newly released games are then ignored. So, is World of Warcraft worth my $20 a month? My answer is no. I recommend keeping your money for something else. If you can, even put it towards a newly released game that you may be interested in.

Tips For The PlayStation 2
I know that there are a lot of people that are excited about the current generation consoles. For those not in the know, the current generation consoles as of now are as follows: Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and the Nintendo Wii.
There’s nothing wrong with being excited about those videogame systems, but just because you may be excited about them, doesn’t mean you should neglect the videogame consoles of the previous generation. These systems include: Sony’s PlayStation 2, Microsoft’s Xbox, and Nintendo’s Wii. The fact is, there is still a lot of life left in the PlayStation 2. Now, before I continue, I want to talk about your original PlayStation 2 which was released all the way back in the year 2001.
There’s no denying it, that original PlayStation 2 is big, and it’s bulky. If it’s still working, and you are okay with that, then that’s perfectly fine. Keep it, and continue to enjoy it. For those that have a PlayStation 2 and are considering replacing their big, bulky machine, there is an answer for you. That answer comes in the form of the new PS2 model, called the Slimline. So right off the bat, that is my first PS2 tip. The fact is that the Slimline is small, it’s sleek, and it takes up a lot less space than its original model. So, if you don’t have one, go get one. Best of all, they are really cheap in terms of cost.
The next thing I want to talk about is the value of purchasing used video games. Let’s face it, software titles, especially these days, can be really expensive. That’s where the value of purchasing used games really comes in. Great thing is, it’s not difficult to find used games at almost any local videogame retailer. Some of the deals that you can find are actually pretty incredible. Let me give you a couple of examples of some of the deals that I got when purchasing games used.
So, on a Wednesday morning, I decided to take a visit at my local Blockbuster. Of course, I was looking for some PlayStation 2 games. I ended up purchasing Grand Turismo 3, Onimusha 2, and Silent Hill 3 for a low price of only $15. Yes, I actually purchased three PS2 games for only $15. To do a sort of comparison, if you were to purchase three current generation software titles, that would cost you upwards of $150-$250. Even after more than seven years since its release, I still use my PlayStation 2.
I hope the general tips within this article has made people realize that there is still plenty of enjoyment to be had with your PS2.

Nintendo Wii – Wii Sports
Don’t have a Wii yet? If you ever do decide to get one, it should be noted that every Wii console comes bundled with the Wii Sports video game, which is fantastic. What Nintendo has essentially done, is they created a software title that practically anyone can pick up and play.
The problem with most consoles of the past, besides not coming with a free game, is that they didn’t look user-friendly to the average gamer. Yes, those that played game religiously knew exactly how to control and operate one of these consoles. But again, for the average person, it looked very complicated, and frankly, not that fun.
That is what is so great about Wii Sports. Not only is it user-friendly, but it’s also entertaining for those that aren’t actually playing the game. The reason for this is because the game is motion controlled, rather than just pressing and pushing a bunch of buttons. Wii Sports consists of five different sports games, in addition to some other features.
It consists of a bowling, golfing, boxing, tennis, and baseball game. So for example, if you decide to play bowling, you are using the Wii remote (the controller) in a similar manner as you would use a real bowling ball. What you are essentially doing is emulating the movements of the real sport. So in baseball, you hit the balls as if you were holding a real bat.
In golf, you would swing your club as you would a real golf club. How about though, if you don’t feel like emulating the real sports with such “drastic” movements? Actually, there are ways to reduce movement significantly and still get the same effect in terms of how the game is controlled. When I started playing Wii bowling, I used to stand up and swing the ball as if I were in a real bowling alley.
Now, I can actually play the game while sitting on my couch, and it still plays and feels great. I do the same thing with golf and/or boxing. So, if you ever decide to purchase a Wii for yourself, be happy in knowing it comes with a game that is inviting, and entertaining for the whole family.

The State Of The Video Game Industry
It was more than a decade ago when both Sony and Nintendo dominated the video game industry. It used to be both Sega and Nintendo that dominated the industry, but that was before Sony entered the picture, and quite literally knocked out Sega as a video game hardware manufacturer, leaving them with creating software titles only.
It was because of that incident that led many to believe that the industry was only capable of holding just two major consoles, tops. That changed, however, when Microsoft entered the scene in 2001 with their Xbox. That just proved that the industry was capable of holding more than two gaming systems. This changed everything.
Once this happened, more video games were being created than ever before. So the options, in terms of software titles, had expanded for the consumers. So, the industry was starting to expand. More and more people started to play video games.
Fast forward to today, and we have three gaming consoles to choose from – the great thing is that each system has something different to offer. We have the Xbox 360, which has solid online gaming, with more and more people joining the online community. We have the PS3, which is a really powerful console, and has some really good exclusives. Then, we have the Nintendo Wii, which offers motion-based controls, and has many software titles that the whole family can enjoy.
Because the gap, in terms of hardware, between each new console release has decreased, this means that the consoles of previous generations will still be legit for many people. This means that there is still a lot of life left for those consoles. This is really good for consumers, because now, you can buy a system of interest for very cheap prices. On top of this, the software titles for those specific systems can also be found for very cheap prices. This doesn’t even include the used game sections of your local gaming retailers.
So, what is the state of the video game industry? By the looks of it, it’s looking really healthy. Also, if you look at the statistics for the past five years, it shows an industry growth, as more and more people are starting to play video games, and people that used to play and stopped, are now re-entering. It’s not far from when video games will be looked at as a legit form of entertainment.

Bourne Conspiracy Video Game Review
Being a fan of the Robert Ludlums Bourne series, I was very interested to see a Bourne game out. Now, movie games are usually not very good, actually, there are few examples of good movie games and Bourne Conspiracy is no exception.
The game starts a few days before where the first movie begins. Here you are creeping around the docks trying to get to the boat where your target is. To get there, your going to have to battle a few nameless henchmen, and well thats about it.
Controlling Bourne is not always the easiest task. He is a big guy and there are narrow passage ways. Combined, you get one headache after another when your trying to run and you keep running into walls. Even the slightest clip on a wall will have you running in one spot like a 1980’s treadmill. Taking cover behind walls is not always very effective nor an easy task.The game is using the unreal 3 engine, tries to give us a very Gears of War cover system, only not as effective. Think of it as how TMNT used Ubisofts prince of Persia engine.
The shooting in the game is also clunky and hard to master. Again, using the unreal 3 engine, the game uses the pop out, over the shoulder technique. And like the cover system, it fails. Getting a headshot is more difficult than getting Gary Busey to make sense when talking about anything. Now on to maybe the games only saving grace, the fighting.
The fighting system is very basic and repetitive. You combine strong and weak attacks to create combos. At first it’s a lot of fun, but after doing 30 times, you just wanna turn the game off. The animations are very predictable so blocking is very simple, and all the enemies do the same moves. Hell, this game even has one of my major pet peeves in games, repetitive character models. You beat generic guy with wrench about 15 times in one mission.
There are moments in the game that had me saying “that was awesome”. Those were the moments where you build enough adrenaline, gained by defeating enemies to trigger take down sequences. These are instant kills on enemies where you smash their head into a wall or break their fingers. These are very useful on bosses, which like the fighting, just falls short of cool.
Overall, if your a fan of the Bourne series than I would recommend you RENT the game. It follows the story line and throws in alot of filler. Other than that I would not recommend it to anyone else. The repetitive gameplay and lack of depth keep this from living up to the coolness that is Jason Bourne.
